Ash Wednesday ServiceOn Ash Wednesday we begin our forty-day journey toward Easter with a day of fasting and repentance. Marking our foreheads with dust, we acknowledge that we die and return to the earth. At the same time, the dust traces the life-giving cross indelibly marked on our foreheads at baptism.
We will gather in silence and begin at 3:00PM with a simple service of prayer. Midway through the service you will have the option (not obligatory at all!) to come forward and have the pastor mark your forehead in the sign of the cross with ashes. Anyone who receives ashes can decide for themselves how long they wish to keep them on. You are not obligated to keep your forehead smudged as you go back out into public spaces. You can wipe your forehead clean as you leave the building. There is no virtue in signalling our piety to others. The rite is meant to symbolize an internal attitude of returning our hearts to God to which all of us who have been baptized are called during Lent.

Photo Gallery from our Prayer for Ukraine SundayWe had a very meaningful time of worship and prayer for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people on February 23 as they enter a fourth year defending their country against a brutal and illegal invasion. Thank-you to the Družba -дружба- friendship choir, as well as our own. Nataliya Zaliznyak for Viktoriya Zamyatina for bringing the reading of the gospel and intercessions in Ukrainian. And also a big thank-you to Vikoriya's mother for the handcrafted icon emboidery. We continue to hold the Ukrainian people close to our hearts and pray for a just and lasting peace to return to their land. One Body: Better Together in ChristYou are cordially invited to join us for a transformative two-day visioning and dialogue session on March 22-23. This gathering is designed to explore the profound meaning and practical implications of embracing the idea that We Are One Body in Christ. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of our geographically diverse Synod in this time and place, it is crucial that we come together to:
Your presence and active participation are vital as we seek to discern God's leading for our Synod and for our shared future. Together, we will consider what changes might allow us to work together well for the sake of the gospel. Our conversations over the weekend will take place at King of Life Lutheran, 1198 Falcon Drive, Coquitlam. We will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 22nd (coffee will be ready at 9:15am) and continue through until 12:30 pm on Sunday, March 23. Our facilitator for the weekend is Charles Holmes, who led our synod-wide conversations. We hope that each congregation will send up to two lay leaders and their active rostered leader or interim minister. Please join us for this important time of reflection, dialogue, and visioning. Your voice is essential as we work to strengthen the bonds that unite us in our shared ministry. |
