It was Wednesday evening at the church and I had been enjoying overhearing the soulful sounds of Vancouver Iranian Choir rehearsing. At 7:30 they were dispersing for their usual coffee break, but on this Wednesday evening something different was astir. Rather than gather outside the office for refreshments, someone opened wide the sliding doors and helpers set up a table in the courtyard. Soon the table took on a festive look with a tablecloth, and a large three-tier cake. The choir members assembled and someone addressed the crowd and applause broke out. And then . . . a beautiful soaring soprano voice offered a gift of song - in honor of the women of Iran fighting for freedom.
I had thought that perhaps it was someone's birthday. And indeed it was. I learned that the choir members were celebrating their 8th Anniversary as a choir. Sepehr, the choir director, told me how they began with their first rehearsal at Gloria Dei eight years ago . . . and how Gloria Dei has become the choir's home.
Happy Anniversary! We are glad you have found a home with us and we wish you much success in your continuing growth and development.
