Our first session of the Community Kitchen is wrapping up tomorrow, Dec. 2 with a meal shared together. We had a different number of people each week and made great food (I actually learned a lot myself!). We made international dishes that were suggested by the participants - a Ukrainian dish, a Persion dish, a Chinese dessert - as well as a hearty soup, a pasta dish and Maureen Junck’s chocolate chip cookies! Our facilitator, Tanya, was amazing at encouraging everyone to speak English and participate in cooking each dish.
We're grateful to the Synod and CLWR for funding this pilot project. Pastor Vida, Tanya and I will meet to discuss what we have learned from this first experience offerng a Community Kitchen program. We'll review the outcomes, make adjustments and see what possibilities there are for continuing the the New Year.
