Fourteen years ago, Gloria Dei made the difficult and courageous decision to become a Reconciling in Christ congregation. This signifies a public and intentional covenant or commitment to welcome, celebrate and advocate for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. In 2021 we made that public commitment more visible by wrapping the cedar tree near our front entrance in rainbow colors. But that is not enough. In a climate of rising hatred for LGBTQ and trans people, where churches with dangerous and hateful messages are loud and numerous, it is paramount that we regularly renew our commitment to full inclusion, so that all of God’s children know they are safe and welcomed in this place.
